Deanery Synod

Clergy and representatives from each parish together form the Deanery Synod. This forms part of the legal and governance structure of the Church of England in London.

Functions of Deanery Synod

Synod is a statutory body and forms part of the synodical government structure of the Church of England.

Synod's primary functions are to:

consider matters relating to the Church of England and to make provision for such matters in relation to the Deanery and to consider and express opinion on any other matters of religious or public interest

bring together the views of parishes on common problems, to discuss and formulate common policies on those problems and to make known and so far as appropriate put into effect any provision made by Diocesan Synod

foster a sense of community and interdependence among parishes

promote the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical.

Members of Synod additionally form the electoral college for Diocesan Synod and General Synod and for the Area Council for the Two Cities.

Synod may not issue any statements purporting to declare the doctrine of the Church of England. Matters of Doctrine are reserved to General Synod.
